How psychedelic drug affects the human brain

It is not known how psychedelic drug, 5-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (5-MeO-DMT) affects the human brain although it is very well known to affect the consciousness.
In this study, the researchers looked at electroencephalography (EEG) data of 29 healthy individuals before and after inhaling a high dose (12-mg) of vaporized synthetic 5-MeO-DMT and show how the psychedelic drug affects the human brain.
The authors report changes in the spatiotemporal organization of slow waves causing them to become heterogeneous, viscous, and nonrecurring and to cease their travel forward and backward across the cortex.
They also find that 5-MeO-DMT pushes human brain dynamics toward a low-dimensional steady state on a steepened energy landscape.
